North Island

North Island is one of 2 main islands in New Zealand , other being the South Island . This has the area of 113,729 square km making world's fourteenth largest island. Island has the population of about 3,25,700 estimated in June2008. There are 8 important cities is North Island and notably New Zealand's largest cities as New Plymouth, Tauranga, Auckland, Hamilton, Gisborne and Wellington the capital city of New Zealand.
 

About 76% of population in New Zealand lives in North Island . According to the mythology of Maori South and North Islands of New Zealand are through actions of the Maui . With brothers Maui was fishing from canoe ( Island of South land) when he caught great fish from sea and pulled it.

Bay of Plenty

It is abbreviated as BOP, it is a region in North island of New Zealand that is situated around body of water having same name This bay was name by J Cook after noticed the food supplies abundant at several villages of Maori, in contrast earlier observation had made in the poverty Bay .

 

In 2006 Census Bay of Plenty estimate the resident population of about 257,379 making fifth most populous in New Zealand . This region is also has third highest regional population in New Zealand , having only 11-th largest area of land. Major population centers in region are Rotorua, Tauranga and Whaketan. Bay of Plenty is one of fastest growing region in country.

Wellington

It is the capital city of New Zealand and is situated at southwestern tip of North Island ; it is between the Rimutaka Range and Cook Strait .

 


Urban area of Wellington is the major population center of southern island and it ranks as New Zealand 's 3 rd most populous area of urban with 381,900 of residents. In Wellington region there are 473,700 residents (estimated in 2008 June). Wellington is suburb and lies across 4 cities, it contain the central business district and half of the Wellington population. Wellington is also the political center of New Zealand it has housing parliament and head office of all ministries of Government.
