Lamb

Lamb is traditional and most popular dish in New Zealand . It is cooked as juicy roast with rosemary and garlic and served with tangy mint sauce; it is generally on menu of every restaurant in country. One year old or hogget is tastier than a younger lamb; it is not as strong as other meat like mutton. Beef is reasonable and excellent priced in many of restaurants with thick juicy steaks, crisp salad, good company, sausages, chilled wine and cicadas singing from trees.

 

Seafood

New Zealand has variety of shellfish from tuatua, toheroa, paua, pipi and oysters and crayfish. Toheroa is found along northwest beaches of North Island , and make one of the favorite shellfish soups in world. Other seafood is flounder, cod, kingfish, John Dory, terekihi and squid these all are widely available and have good taste as well.

 

Fruit and Veggies

Fresh vegetable and fruits are eaten throughout the country. Some of these are more exotic ones if getting a chance for it. You may find few that are not recognized beetroot, bilberries, courgettes, Chinese gooseberries and fiejoas. In the month of May and December there are raspberries, strawberries and loganberries, while in February and January you can get melons and avocados.
