Sopranos Restaurant - Petone (North Island)

An evening out with friends at Petone - a short drive from Wellington.

We went out to a meal at Sopranos which is actually in an area called Petone approximately 10 minutes from Wellington. Petone used to be a very working class and run-down area despite the fact that it has a lovely foreshore bounding Wellington Harbour. A lot of money has been spent on the foreshore putting in a pier and a great walking track along the 3km or so distance. Shopping in Petone is now really interesting with a lot of boutiques selling trendy and sometimes alternate clothing. There are many cafes and restaurants.

Sopranos on a Friday night was very crowded. It is a small restaurant and the fact that it was crowded added to the atmosphere. It had a fun vibe to it. The food was of a good standard. Only comment that I would make is that there was a certain inflexibility. I asked if I could have a different pasta with the sauce that I wanted seeing as my first menu choice had sold out. I was told that on such a busy night, the kitchen was not prepared to make any changes to menu items. May have to change this attitude given the competition around and give the punters what they want! It really wasn’t an unreasonable or difficult request.
